Truth: People connect through story.
In her book Wired for Story Lisa Cron reveals one of the best keys to writing well. It’s not authentic dialogue, metaphors or even interesting characters. It’s telling a great story.
She teaches writers to use cognitive storytelling strategies to craft stories that tap into the brain’s natural desire to find out what happens next.
Think about Hollywood…
The film industry earns more than 30 billion U.S. dollars per year charging people to consume stories.
And how about the Netflix effect?
If you’re old enough, you used to gather on Thursday nights to watch one episode each of Must See TV on NBC. It was the weekly lineup of the most popular sitcoms at the time.
(And yes, I was front and center every week for Friends and Seinfeld.)
Nowadays, for a few bucks a month, you can just binge-watch your favorite series in one night. No need to wait an entire week to find out what happens next.
Another truth: There’s a lot of blah blah blah marketing out there.
Think about all the email lists you’re on right now. How many of those emails do you actually look forward to reading?
I can count exactly two in my inbox. The rest? Blah blah blah marketing.
Now, if we know that people connect through story, so much so that they’re even willing to pay for it…
And if we know that there’s tons of blah blah blah marketing out there…
All we have to do is learn how to tell authentic stories.
When we can do that, we’ll have marketing so powerful, it’ll be up there with stories people pay money to consume.
What if YOU could charge people to consume your message?
But here’s the challenge: most people struggle to tell authentic stories.
They feel like it has to be something exciting or made up and embellished to be good.
Or they think their own life is boring and wonder who would want to hear a story about the time they bought a coffee.
And so, they attempt to write real stories and immediately make sh*t up.
Through my experience in writing Hollywood movie trailers, plus writing emails in my clients’ voices (using their authentic stories), I’ve developed a system to help you find your own stories.
The stories that already exist in the things you say out loud, the things that give you pause, the things that piss you off and the hohum things you do on a daily basis.
What I do in my “Authentic Storytelling” system is extract the stories in your world, in your products and in your past.
I’m not talking about making things up and trying to sound like somebody you’re not.
This isn’t about doing the hard work and being a creative genius to make up compelling stories.
Your authentic stories are hiding in plain sight and my system helps you capture them.
Once you do, you’ll take your stories and put them into my templates and your emails will do the selling for you.
So, if you’re willing to watch some videos, do some exercises and fill in some templates, here’s what I can promise:
In less than a day we can find all the stories you need for more than 6 months of sales emails and content that you can use to grow your business. Need more? Just rinse and repeat.
If that sounds like a good plan to you, just click that button below and you’ll have immediate access to 47 email templates.
